Get Up And Go

Do you ever have a prompting to go and/or do something that you just don’t quite understand?  Maybe you rationalize, thinking it’s just your imagination?  But, what if it’s not?  What if God is trying to accomplish something for you, or through you for someone else?  On September 9th, my daily devotional spoke to me about this conundrum.  Below is the scripture that went along with the devotional:

Ezekiel 3:22-27 (NL) says:  “Then the Lord took hold of me and said, ‘Get up and go out into the valley, and I will speak to you there.’  So I got up and went, and there I saw the glory of the  Lord, just as I had seen in my first vision by the Kebar River. And I fell face down on the ground.  Then the Spirit came into me and set me on my feet. He spoke to me and said, ‘Go to your house and shut yourself in. There, son of man, you will be tied with ropes so you cannot go out among the people. And I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be speechless and unable to rebuke them, for they are rebels. But when I give you a message, I will loosen your tongue and let you speak. Then you will say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says!’ Those who choose to listen will listen, but those who refuse will refuse, for they are rebels.’”

God was speaking to Ezekiel about some difficult things He wanted him to do.  At times,  we too may be asked to do some difficult things – or not.  Chris Tiegreen (the author of my devotional book) shared that day a word that was given to him about this, and I want to share some of the insights God gave to him:

“If you want to encounter Me, go where I tell you.  Sometimes I whisper to you in the moment, right where you are.  Sometimes I meet you in your normal routine.  But sometimes you need a change of location.  My Son would go to a mountaintop or withdraw from the crowds.  Ezekiel had to go to a place where I could show him My glory more fully & privately and then send him back into his normal surroundings.  Jeremiah went down to the potter’s house so I could give him an illustration.  I often put My friends in places that will be relevant to the word I’m about to speak, or put them in a strategic spot in order to speak a specific word to them.  I have many reasons, and I rarely explain them fully. But when you hear me telling you to go somewhere, get up and go.  When I speak, sometimes location matters…Your location can affect what you hear…You will encounter Me in places you never expected.” *

I also want to tell you about a video I saw online a few months ago that goes along with this kind of directive from God.  In the video was a lady that lives somewhere around the Appalachians giving her testimony – She felt a leading one morning to get in her car and start driving a certain direction.  She headed out on a road toward a scenic area.  She had her window down and praise music blasting as she drove along.  Suddenly she felt a prompting to pull over – but then she questioned God.  “Really?  This isn’t even near a scenic area yet Lord, where I can sit and view Your majesty.”  But the feeling was so strong she pulled over.  She still had the praise music blasting and started to roll up her window as she just sat there singing along with the praises.  But God told her to leave the window down.  So she just continued to sit there, with her eyes closed, singing praises to God.  Then she opened her eyes and there was a lady standing in front of her car, eyes closed, hands raised, singing and crying.  That lady then opened her eyes and came around to the car window.  Since that lady was crying, she asked her if she was okay and she told her yes she was.  Then she began to explain that she’d recently been desperately seeking God.  That morning she’d decided to go out for a hike and came upon this scene; and, when she heard the praise music, she felt God’s presence and peace flood over her.

Now seriously, what are the odds that these two women that didn’t know each other, would be at that exact spot on that same day to encounter each other?  God’s providence made that happen and through their obedience He met them there.

How often do we miss God by not following His leading?  How often do we then miss blessing someone else?  How often do we miss our own blessings?

“Do you listen to the voice within you, or do you listen to the voices around you?”  Trent Tribe

The more we grow in our relationship with Him, the easier it is to discern it’s Him speaking to us.  The Bible refers to us as the sheep and Jesus as our shepherd and it tells us that the sheep know their shepherd’s voice.  How?  It’s all about relationship.  When I researched how a shepherd builds a relationship with his sheep, this is what came up:  “Shepherds build a relationship with their sheep through consistent care, trust, and intimate knowledge of each animal. This involves knowing their individual needs, guiding them to food and water, protecting them from danger, and providing security. The relationship is built over time as sheep learn the shepherd’s voice, learn to trust their guidance and touch, and come to see the shepherd as a source of safety and security.”

That sounds like the relationship we should have with our Shepherd – Jesus – and the reasons why.

I pray that I can strengthen my relationship with my Jesus enough that I can more clearly hear His directives – and that I will have the fortitude to obey when I hear Him speak.
